As recovery continues, in some areas families in the village were paid 2500 Sri Lankan Rupees(US $25) to leave government refugee camps and return to their homes which are less than 50 meters from the Indian Ocean only to have the Sri Lankan government respond to the December 26, 2004 tsunami by putting forth a proposal restricting the builing of structures within 100 meters of the shore.
